CORINTH, TX, February 3, 2021 – At approximately 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Corinth Police received a call about a reckless driver on the I-35E Service Road near Swisher Road.  Officers were dispatched to the area as additional information was being gathered from a caller. The vehicle was described as a Ford F-150 pickup and was located by officers in the 2600 block of Nash Street at a residence.

Preliminary information indicates officers approached a male at the residence who was immediately confrontational. Officers attempted to calm the individual and de-escalate the situation. During the interaction, officers noticed a holster on the individual’s waist.  De-escalation techniques were not successful, and the male continued his aggression. Officers gave verbal commands to bring the situation under control.  When the suspect did not comply, a less lethal device was used to stop the aggression but was not successful.  The male then fired a handgun at the officers causing them to return fire.  The male was struck and taken into custody.

Officers immediately provided first aid until EMS arrived. During the incident, a female at the residence sustained a minor injury as well.  Both were transported to Medical City Denton and are listed in stable condition.

The Texas Rangers have been asked to investigate the incident.  The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is currently available.
