2025 SEWER AVERAGING
CORINTH, TX, November 6, 2025 – Looking for ways to lower your utility bill? The City of Corinth is reminding residents that the annual sewer averaging period begins in November and runs through February. This process is used to determine residential wastewater charges for the upcoming year.
Because wastewater doesn’t have its own meter, the City estimates sewer use by reviewing water consumption during the cooler months—when outdoor watering is typically at its lowest. This ensures that sewer bills are based on indoor water use rather than seasonal irrigation.
How Sewer Averaging Works:
- Measurement Period: Water use is recorded from November through February.
- Dropping the Highest Month: The month with the highest water usage is dropped.
- Averaging: The remaining three months are averaged to set your monthly charge beginning in April.
Why It Matters:
- Fair Billing: Charges are based on indoor water use, not outdoor watering.
- Stable Costs: Once your average is set, your monthly sewer fee remains consistent for the year, protecting you from unexpected spikes in summer water use.
Tips to Keep Your Sewer Charges Lower:
- Fix leaks quickly—small drips can add up. Shorten showers and use water-efficient fixtures. Visit Know your H20 to track your water use during the averaging period to avoid surprises. The sewer averaging process is designed to give residents fair and predictable wastewater costs. By conserving water during this period, households can reduce their average and save throughout the year.
