Corinth, TX, May 22, 2019 - Governor Greg Abbot has declared the week of  May 20-24, 2019 as Flash Flood Awareness Week in Texas.  The City of Corinth encourages residents to stay educated, and remember to "Turn Around, Don't Drown" when nature strikes.

Floods in Texas have remained a consistent threat to people and property, especially in recent years. This week serves as a great reminder to always have an emergency plan in place for these events.

This week, we are posting tips on our social media accounts, to encourage residents to review their flood plans, and recognize flood hazards in major areas they traffic. It is also important to pay attention to watches and warnings, and take them seriously. Residents should assemble a "preparedness kit" if they are in a flood prone area, and have a solid communication plan in case of evacuation.

Flash floods are natural, and often unpredictable, and can even occur in assumed low risk areas. These disasters are the number one weather related killer in the united States, and should be taken with caution.
