ORIGINAL CITY HALL DEMOLISHED ON CITY'S 59TH ANNIVERSARY

CITY HALL

Corinth, TX, September 19, 2019 - On this day, fifty nine years ago, Corinth was established by a group of loyal residents with a vision for the future of Corinth.  The population of Corinth at the time of incorporation, on September 19, 1960,  was approximately 400.   Just as the organization of the community began in the homes of local citizens, the city council meetings were also conducted in the homes of the Mayor and Council members.

It wasn't until 1976 that the community passed a local tax rate and adopted a budget that included funds for the building of a new City Hall.  The City Hall was built largely through volunteer labor from local citizens and community donations. When the former city hall opened, there were less than 30 employees serving the city. Operations continued in that space until the current city hall was constructed in 2004.  At that time, the building was converted to the former police headquarters and operated as such until April 2018 when the new Public Safety Complex was completed.  For 42 years, the building served our community well, and countless elected officials, volunteers, residents and staff members walked the halls with one common goal, to make our community great for future generations!

It seems appropriate that on this 59th anniversary, the City will demolish the original City Hall, located at 2003 Corinth St to prepare for future economic development in support of the Tax Increment Financing District and the commuter rail station.   We are proud to be continuing the legacy of innovative thinking, and community pride that was established in the very roots of our city in 1960, and will be carried on for years to come.

The former City Hall building is scheduled to be demolished at 2pm.
