Corinth, TX, May 14, 2022 – The Lake Cities Fire Department was notified of the successful submission for the Best Practices designation, making them one of only 27 fire departments in the state to achieve this recognition from the Texas Fire Chief's Association.

Following an extensive internal review that measured its level of adherence to a comprehensive list of best practices, the Lake Cities Fire Department was awarded the "Recognized Best Practices Fire Department" from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program.

The process, which is voluntarily undertaken by the fire department, requires the organization to conduct a critical self-review of the department’s policies, procedures, facilities, and operations. The application process caused the department to review and formalize the missing pieces by creating and updating its written documentation, policies, and plans.

Over the past year, the department embarked on a process of examining compliance in areas such as Administration and Organization, Emergency Medical Service, Fire Prevention, Risk Reduction, Community Outreach, Safety and Health, and Professional Standards and Conduct which is part of the 117 best business practices for fire departments in the State of Texas. These best practices were developed by Fire Service professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service to communities.

Upon completion of the department's internal review, an outside audit and review was conducted, along with an on-site department review, that was performed by trained Fire Chiefs and Assistant Fire Chiefs from other areas of the state. The result of this review was then sent to the Texas Fire Chiefs Best Practices Recognition Board for final analysis, resulting in the decision to award the "Recognized" status to the department.

The Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices program provides a pathway for a fire department to push its level of service to a level of excellence that is validated by independent experts. This designation demonstrates to customers of these organizations that their fire department is among the very best in the Texas fire service.

The recognition verifies that the Lake Cities Fire Department is using the most current best practices in the profession. It also means that the department is meeting and exceeding its professional obligations to the residents and businesses of the Lake Cities.
