clip_image001

SPAN is a local Denton nonprofit that provides transportation services to seniors, people with disabilities, and the public throughout the area. With over 35 buses and minivans (all wheel-chair accessible), SPAN exists to meet the needs of community members.

Through a partnership with Lake Cities, a federal grant was awarded to assist residents with receiving transportation services. Working with the City of Corinth, SPAN is pleased to offer these transportation services to seniors needing transportation for medical treatments, doctor/dentist’s appointments and trips to get prescriptions filled.

These trips are available to seniors living in Lake Cities at $3.00 per trip.

SPAN was started in 1974 by a group of people in Denton that were looking to help seniors in the community. In addition to transportation services, SPAN Inc. also oversees Meals on Wheels of Denton County, and runs a program called Senior Paws, which provides dog food and cat food to Meals on Wheels recipients who have animals but are unable to afford pet food. SPAN strives to be more than just a meal or a ride, they strive to be a community for seniors in need. SPAN provides an average of 109,000 meals and provides over 60,000 trips annually to people in Denton County.

"We are pleased to be able to partner with an organization that exemplifies the true meaning of community. We look forward to continuing to see the results of these services to our residents for many years to come, " stated City Manager Bob Hart.
