The Corinth Police Department and Lake Cities Fire Department played a vital role in sending a message to the students of Lake Dallas High School about the consequences of distracted driving. On Tuesday, April 18, public safety officials partnered with the high school student council to put on a program called Shattered Dreams, which reenacts the scene of a collision caused by both texting while driving and drunk driving.
The scenario included two fatalities and two passengers being taken away by ambulance while survivors watched in disbelief and regret. Firefighters performed an extrication of the hood of a car while Police Officers conducted a field sobriety test on one of the drivers. Make-up was used to generate the illusion of blood and bruises, creating a realistic picture of what could happen in a split second.
“Our goal is to impact as many students as possible through this program,” stated Lieutenant Jimmie Gregg with the Corinth Police Department. “If just one person remembers this scene before picking up their phone or getting behind the wheel after a drink and decides not to drive distracted, then we have succeeded in saving lives.”
