The Citizens Police Academy, or CPA, is a 12 week program designed to open the lines of communication between Corinth Police Department and the community. It is the sincere desire of the Corinth Police Department to develop a style of policing that reflects a collaborative effort between community and police. This process requires an informed citizenry and it is the goal of the CPA to increase understanding through education.
Classes meet one evening per week for 12 weeks and are conducted at no cost to the participants. Anyone at least 18 years old who resides or works in any of the Lake Cities (Corinth, Shady Shores, Hickory Creek or Lake Dallas) is eligible to attend the Citizens Police Academy provided they meet the basic criteria outlined in the application.
The curriculum is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the operational dynamics of the Corinth Police Department and the critical role of citizens play in our community crime control efforts. We believe that policing by partnership is essential for effective law enforcement. The CPA will cover various topics related to law enforcement and include family law. Arrest search and seizure, evidence procedures, criminal investigations, traffic, K-9 and identity theft. The CPA instructional segments are taught from members of the Corinth Police Department and from outside agencies as well. The instruction includes hands-on demonstrations and scenario based learning.
