Under certain circumstances, you have a right to take defensive driving class to keep a moving violation off your driver record. You request may be made either in person or by mail by the date listed on your citation above your signature. 

Following are the eligibility requirements for the Driver Safety Course:

• Not charged with speeding in excess of 24 mph
• Do not possess a commercial driver's license in any state
• Provide the court with BOTH  a copy of your Texas Driver's License and Proof of Financial Responsibility (insurance) valid the day of your request
• Enclose a payment of $107.00 for court costs or $132.00 if the offense occurred within a school zone.
• You are not in the process of taking DSC under Sec. 543.103 of the Texas Transportation Code nor have you completed DSC which is not reflected on your driving record as maintained by the Texas DPS.
• You have not completed DSC for teh dismissal of a traffic citation within the twelve (12) month period preceding the date of the alleged violation.

16 Years of Age or Younger
According to the laws of the State of Texas, any person 16 years of age or younger who receives a citation must appear in open court with a Parent or Legal Guardian.

You may qualify for the privilege of deferred disposition on certain offenses.  Please contact the court to inquire if your citation is eligible for this process by mail or in person.

Following are the eligibility requirements for Deferred Disposition:

• You did not possess a Commercial Driver's License at the time of the offense.
• You have not participated in any Deferred Disposition program during the past one year (calculated from date of previous dismissal to the date of your current citation) in this Court.
• You are not currently participating in a Deferred Disposition in any other Court.
• Your violation was not in a construction zone with workers present.
• You were not speeding in excess of 25 mph or more over the speed limit.

• No Proof Financial Responsibility (if coverage was in effect on the date and at the time when you received the citation and proof provided to the court by the response date)- No Dismissal Fee
• Expired Inspection (if not expired more than 60 days and a proof of renewal provided to the court) - $20.00 Dismissal Fee 
• Expired Registration (if you pay the penalty fee at the tax office and provide proof of renewal to the court) - $20.00 Dismissal Fee 
• No Driver License in Possession 
• Expired Driver License (if renewed by the response date and proof of renewal provided to the court) - $20.00 Dismissal Fee
• Fail to Change Address or Name on Driver's License (if renewed and proof provided to the court by the response date) - $20.00 Dismissal Fee
